Mantids are fascinating insects; did you know there are three common species of praying mantis in New York: the Chinese mantis, the European mantis, and the native Carolina mantis. The Chinese and European mantises are non-native invasive species, while the Carolina mantis is the only species native to the northeastern United States. Learn to identify each mantis species as well as what they eat, how long they live and what their egg cases look like.
